Our Firm

OUR FIRM

The Firm was started in 2016 by Josh Freeman and Steve Lovell. Over lunch, Josh and Steve compared notes on their experiences practicing law and what, in their minds, the ideal law firm looked like. Both desired a high level of autonomy but equally needed a collaborative environment to build and grow business and real estate-oriented law practices. After comparing notes and fleshing out a wish list for a law firm model, Steve and Josh decided to build a firm based on that wish list.

In 2022, in celebration of their 7th Anniversary, Josh and Steve shared their insights and thoughts.

When you started FL 7 years ago, did you think you’d be HERE 7 years later? We really love where we are. We don't know that it is exactly where we thought we would be, but we have learned so much along the journey. We still have a long ways to go to be able to get to where we see we could go in helping our clients along their journeys of entrepreneurship.

What’s been most surprising about the journey so far? This shows our naivete, but how much hard work, thought, and experimentation has been needed to get us this far.

What are you the most proud of? Building a law firm that puts our clients' and our attorneys' experiences and outcomes first.

Talk about the culture of FL and how that came to be. We wanted to create a culture that we would want to be part of and do it in a way that every professional regardless of where they work at Freeman Lovell experience the same. What we craved is what we have come to refer to as a culture of collaborative autonomy. We want people to put their lives, family, friends, goals, and desired experiences first and not have to sacrifice that for career. We also want to feel like we are part of a team and something bigger than just ourselves. Not an easy thing to do, but we think we are finding a good balance.

If you could go back in time, what’s one piece of advice you would give yourself 7 years ago? Slow down. Be patient.

Can you talk about where you hope FL will be at its 10th anniversary? We hope that we continue to grow and evolve to find better and better ways to serve our clients and our professionals so that they have the tools and resources to find professional and personal success in whatever form that may come. Basically, we don't know what we will look like in 3 years, but if we stick to serving our entrepreneurs and professionals and building products and services that make it easier for them to succeed, We are sure that will take us somewhere amazing.
